Author Talks & Speaking Engagements

It’s more

than an author visit. It’s a mindset shift.

When I visit your school, students don’t just hear a story. They see the real journey behind it. Through honest storytelling, creativity, and vulnerability, students discover:

  • Confidence is not waiting for perfection
  • Action builds belief
  • Their ideas matter
  • They can write their next chapter. Literally and figuratively.

By the end of the experience, they leave not just inspired but ready. Ready to write. Ready to try. Ready to believe in themselves. Adults often share that students continue the conversation long after the event ends. That is the goal.

Programs Designed to Inspire Action

Elementary
 Author Experience

An interactive session blending the writing process, personal stories of courage and an engaging book reading. Students move from uncertainty to “I can do hard things.”

Middle School
 Confidence & Voice

A deeper conversation tailored for older students, focusing on identity, resilience, and creative expression. By unpacking the technical craft and emotional honesty behind book writing, students learn that dreams grow through action and purposeful self-confidence.

Family Literacy
Night

An inclusive experience that brings students and adults into the conversation together. It sparks creativity, connection, and meaningful dialogue at home. Because confidence grows in community and education starts at home.

Sponsored Book
Option

Schools often choose to provide a personalized signed copy experience to students in attendance. This extends the impact beyond the assembly and into the home.

What Educators & Librarians are Saying

With over 40 years in education, I have attended numerous workshop sessions just to say the least, but this presentation truly stood out for me. The author provided powerful insights into the writing process while making the journey to becoming an author feel both accessible and inspiring. What impressed me most was how the session connected literacy, creativity, and personal storytelling in a way that encourages educators and students alike to see themselves as writers. It was both motivating and enlightening!

I can’t wait until the second book is published!

CECELIA HARRINGTON, FIRST GRADE TEACHER, MIDTOWN COMMUNITY ELEMENTARY

Tavea came to our Title 1 Family Literacy Night and we could not have asked for a better experience. Students and families from Preschool through 8th grade were engaged and raved about meeting her. Her presentation was informative and inspirational (she inspired some future authors and illustrators). We hope to have her at future events.

ASHLEY SINGH, ESL TEACHER/TITLE 1 LIAISON, NEPTUNE MIDDLE SCHOOL

Tavea Sanderson truly energized our assembly of students and staff and left a positive lasting impression. Her ability to connect with her audience is evident, and her storytelling is top tier!

LAUREN SWEET, STUDENT ADVISOR, AMERIGO A. ANASTASIA ELEMENTARY

It was a pleasure having Tavea Sanderson at the Long Branch Library reading her book. We received a lot of compliments on the well-written book with the beautiful graphics and the fun activity that went along with the program.

The Mission

Everything I teach is rooted in one simple belief.

Everything you need is already in you.
When students understand that their creativity, courage, and ideas are not missing but waiting, they begin to take action.
When action becomes habit, confidence follows.
This approach supports school goals for literacy, equity, academic engagement, and long-term growth.

Frequently Asked
Questions

Do you travel for speaking events?2026-03-14T23:02:43+00:00

Yes. I’m based in New Jersey and regularly visit schools throughout the region. I also travel throughout the year and am often happy to coordinate school visits in cities I’m already planning to be in. Virtual visits are available as well for schools outside the area.

How many students can attend at once?2026-03-14T22:59:23+00:00

I’m comfortable presenting to both small classroom groups and large assemblies. Some schools prefer a single school-wide presentation, while others schedule multiple sessions by grade level. We can decide what works best for your space and schedule.

I’m not seeing the program I have in mind. Can you tailor an experience to my school’s demographic?2026-03-14T22:50:39+00:00

Yes. The website highlights the most commonly requested programs, but I regularly tailor presentations to fit the age group, goals and needs of each school community. The message of It’s In Me is something every age group can benefit from. If you’re looking for something for an older audience, a special event, a corporate gathering, or an expo, please reach out. I’m always happy to explore what might be a good fit.

Can books be ordered in advance?2026-03-14T23:11:56+00:00

Yes. Many hosts choose to order books ahead of time so students and families can continue the message at home. Bulk pricing and sponsored book options are available, and a book signing experience is included with visits when books are ordered. Please note that books typically take about two weeks to arrive.

Do you offer multiple sessions in one day?2026-03-02T20:12:12+00:00

Yes. Half-day and full-day options are available.

What are your AV needs?2026-03-02T20:03:19+00:00

Projector, screen, WiFi, and a microphone for larger groups. I will send a slide deck ahead of time and bring my own laptop as a fail-safe for tech issues.

How long is a typical presentations?2026-03-14T23:04:54+00:00

Most presentations run between 30–45 minutes, depending on the format and age group. I can also accommodate shorter assemblies, classroom visits, or extended workshops if your schedule allows.
